Jake Debow of New England Naturals is an authority on trapping. He builds his life around the outdoors and spends much of his time hunting, but trapping is the thing he is known for. I had the privilege to sit down and learn from Jake about the trapper lifestyle- its history, its current popularity and where it's headed in the future. It truly was one of my favorite interviews I've recorded in a while, and I think Jake's perspectives will draw you in as well.

Ep. 241 Dermestid Beetles, Bison Ranching, and Hunting Big Bucks

Riley Rozendaal is one of the most interesting people I know. In his early 20s was brave enough to teach himself how to raise dermestid beetle colonies to take on taxidermy work cleaning skulls for euro mounts, but even more impressive than that, Riley started his own bison ranch. This episode features conversation around what it takes to maintain a dermestid colony, and what to expect from them for cleaning skulls. We also talk about how Riley got into bison ranching, and the many challenges that come with raising 1500+ pound animals. Finally we wrap the conversation talking about Riley's multiple year pursuit of a giant old buck.

James Doanes is an American Hunter who has been pursuing his dreams of tagging every huntable big game animal in his home state of Colorado. So far his quest has yielded a bull moose, an antelope, a bull elk, and most recently a rocky mountain bighorn sheep. This is an excellent interview with a very thoughtful hunter who has done what it takes to become an excellent hunter.
