Ep. 99 Buck Tales with Joe Shead

On this episode Brandon and I were joined by the always entertaining Joe Shead of www.goshedhunting.com. Joe is a long time outdoor writer, and one of my favorites at that. This is also Joe's third interview on the podcast so he has been with First Gen Hunter since the earliest days. In the past Joe has provided us with the details of his Alaska Bull Moose adventure, and his insight on how to find moose, and whitetail antlers in the North Woods. This time though we get a run down on everything Joe has been up to in the outdoors since the last time we talked. Of course, whenever you are talking to Joe their will be plenty of humor and funny misadventures included in the story telling- such as shed hunting half naked, snapping a TV personality's $400 musky rod in half, and plenty of other great stories. But the main thing we talk about is the release of Joe's latest book: "Buck Tales" which is now available for purchase. Ep. 98 When Bird Dogs Are In Your Blood with Ron Boehme

Ron Boehme is one of the most recognizable voices in the gun dog community. Not just because of his hilarious sense of humor, but because he lives and breathes gun dogs. I like to say he covers the gamut of the hunting dog community from blue collar to white collar. As you will hear in this episode Ron hunts all over the country with all of his dogs and many of his best friends, and he also serves as an official judge for NAVHDA testing of trained hunting dogs. The conversation covers much of Ron's background in hunting as well as upland conservation issues, and even his opinion of my bird dog breed- the American Brittany. It's a great conversation, Ron had me laughing much of the time and I am sure he will the same effect on you, and of course he also drops some great insight on what hunting with dogs is all about. 
 
Garrett Feik also jumped in on this one to provide a few deer hunting tips to keep in mind during this last week of October.

Ep. 96 A Big Western Dude in Big Western Country with David Rhodes

Ever feel like you don't quite fit the mold? Culture says you need to be one thing, but you are something different? In the hunting world "fitness" is supposed to be lean, lanky, and have a bodyweight that starts with a "1" but David Rhodes of Back Rhodes Outdoors proves that those of us who played in the middle of the action on the football field, or who wrestled above the 174 lb. weight class can be a dominant force in the backcountry as well. As you will hear, David not only benches 405 pounds, but he also tags elk, mule deer, and black bears in his home state of Colorado. This was an awesome conversation filled with hunting stories, life philosophy, and great advice about hunting in Colorado.

Ep. 95 Made In America with Andy Techmanski of FORLOH

Practicing conservation can take many forms. Buying a hunting license, joining an ecological advocacy organization, volunteering to help with habitat improvement projects, or even taking political action. One additional way you can participate in conserving the health of our favorite planet is by purchasing products that are made in America. By doing so, the materials used to make the products, and the products themselves have a much smaller carbon footprint by not needing to be shipped all over the globe. This in turn means less resources are depleted, air and water quality are improved, and less disturbance to ecosystems is needed to ship the products to the consumers. FORLOH has stepped up to do just this within the hunting apparel market. Andy Techmanski is the one responsible for this vision, and for seeing it through to production. Andy joins Alex and me in this episode to talk about the history of FORLOH, the importance of buying domestic products, and supporting local businesses. The First Gen Hunter Podcast hit the road and stormed into Lapel Indiana to provide good hunting conversation for the Beast Feast at Bethel Baptist Church. I was joined by Brandon Martin of The Hunt Fish Life, Caleb Drake of Wildfoot Outdoors, and Jesse Gjefle of Primitive Preacher. The conversation dances all over the place from trail cam bans and shooting deer with crossbows, to the national record typical frame whitetail and some of our most memorable misses.
