The First Gen Hunter Podcast

I can't believe it! I never thought I'd be recording a podcast about a turkey I harvested, but here it is! I was joined by a new friend name Brent Barnett who filled his turkey tag on the same piece of public hunting ground that I filled mine. I had a great time getting to know Brent and hearing his story on hunting turkeys this season. If you feel like you're a million miles away from having success hunting then this episode is here to give you hope- thanks for tuning in!

This episode is here to help you not end up in that predicament when bucks are rutting, the toms are strutting, and the sheds are dropping. My dad, son, and I just finished our third annual turkey trip and had a chance to stop in at our favorite deer hunting themed burger joint with our great friend Noel Gandy. Enjoy the conversation!

I've always marveled at folks who hunt specific deer. The energy such a feat requires is extreme. But every year a very select number of deer hunters will pursue their very limited list of targets, and when they achieve their goal a new legendary story is created. That's the case with Noel and his 3 year effort to tag a mature old Iowa giant he named Staredown.

With social media being so intertwined with most our lives hunting has gained a large presence on Instagram, Facebook, etc. This has caused some folks to ask the question- Are hunters doing it for the 'gram?

Finding game to hunt is usually the most challenging aspect of hunting. But even if you master the skill of locating the animals, it won't matter if you can't shoot accurately. I am one of those folks who struggles with this. Thankfully our guest who will remain nameless, but who is a special operative sniper in our military is here to coach us up on the tactics needed for better shooting.

Gathering was the other part of the food getting strategy for our greatest grandparents. Kris Chain from Season Report has made that a major component of his powerful almanac tool. Listen in as we talk about America's favorite mushroom.

Finally! I never knew when the right time would be to record and release the story of our 2022 spring bear hunt. But it's almost bear season again, and I figured now is the perfect time to tell the tale. There's a million ups and downs, hard lessons, a game bag full of laughs, failures, and successes, and whole lot of rain. We took on a tall order hunting spring black bears in NW Montana. Spot stalk was the only legal method we could use, but it was a lot of fun, and a great new challenge. I hope you are inspired to take on your own adventure, because we sure are glad that we did.
