Ever feel like you don't quite fit the mold? Culture says you need to be one thing, but you are something different? In the hunting world "fitness" is supposed to be lean, lanky, and have a bodyweight that starts with a "1" but David Rhodes of Back Rhodes Outdoors proves that those of us who played in the middle of the action on the football field, or who wrestled above the 174 lb. weight class can be a dominant force in the backcountry as well. As you will hear, David not only benches 405 pounds, but he also tags elk, mule deer, and black bears in his home state of Colorado. This was an awesome conversation filled with hunting stories, life philosophy, and great advice about hunting in Colorado.

Ep. 95 Made In America with Andy Techmanski of FORLOH

Practicing conservation can take many forms. Buying a hunting license, joining an ecological advocacy organization, volunteering to help with habitat improvement projects, or even taking political action. One additional way you can participate in conserving the health of our favorite planet is by purchasing products that are made in America. By doing so, the materials used to make the products, and the products themselves have a much smaller carbon footprint by not needing to be shipped all over the globe. This in turn means less resources are depleted, air and water quality are improved, and less disturbance to ecosystems is needed to ship the products to the consumers. FORLOH has stepped up to do just this within the hunting apparel market. Andy Techmanski is the one responsible for this vision, and for seeing it through to production. Andy joins Alex and me in this episode to talk about the history of FORLOH, the importance of buying domestic products, and supporting local businesses. We also get to hear a crazy story about a zombie buck encounter Andy survived. You will definitely want to tune into this one to hear about everything going on at FORLOH!

The First Gen Hunter Podcast hit the road and stormed into Lapel Indiana to provide good hunting conversation for the Beast Feast at Bethel Baptist Church. I was joined by Brandon Martin of The Hunt Fish Life, Caleb Drake of Wildfoot Outdoors, and Jesse Gjefle of Primitive Preacher. The conversation dances all over the place from trail cam bans and shooting deer with crossbows, to the national record typical frame whitetail and some of our most memorable misses.
