Bowfishing is one of the most exciting activities to enjoy in the outdoors. The combination of hunting and fishing and the technical skill required make it that way. One of the craziest and coolest animals in North America is the mighty musk ox. These shaggy critters once roamed throughout much of the continent, but today they are only found around the Arctic Circle. Alex Gruin is one of the most experienced hunters I know and he made the incredible effort to go and chase down a trophy bull in Alaska.

The terms "hunters" and "anglers" are often paired together with a certain level of equivalence as the two main options for folks who like to get their food off the land, but there is a third option. The center of Venn Diagram if you will. That third option is bowfishing. Bowfishing is ancient discipline that combines the best parts of archery hunting and fishing. Mathew from AMS Bowfishing joined me to talk about this great outdoor activity.

Have you ever wondered how hunters know the age of a deer they harvest, or at least are targeting? The same goes for elk, moose, bears, really anything furry that a hunter might target. Well their guess is based off of some sort of associated characteristics that match known ages as determined by scientists who examine the teeth of mammals. Matson's Lab in Manhattan, MT has been practicing this aging science for decades and have become the most recognized name in the animal aging business. I was fortunate enough to talk with Carolyn and AJ about the tooth cementum aging process. It's a fascinating science that his brought them some incredibly interesting opportunities.

It's a true statement though, and it applies to bow hunting just as much as it does football, and basketball. Of all of the most petty lawsuits to exist in the era of frivolous lawsuits is the most recent corner crossing lawsuit filed by a landowner in WY against a group of hunters from MO. Thankfully the courts have ruled in favor of the hunters from MO, but there is still more drama to unfold. Jordan Sillars of MeatEater joined me and Alex to explain the situation and what the ruling may mean for hunters in the future.
